Big Boy Bed: Night One

Failure.

I guess the excitement wore off when he realized that he was actually going to have to S-L-E-E-P in his new big boy bed.

I layed with him for a while and it was quite clear that he was not settling down when he was saying things like..."I want to go see Daddy, sit on the couch, watch the Olympics" or me asking if he wanted to sleep in his big boy bed or crib and him saying "crib, please."

So, Daddy came in and took a turn at laying down with him and a short time later he ended up in his crib and was asleep pretty quickly.

While he was sleeping in his crib, I removed his stuffed animal "friends" from his crib and put them on his new bed - heads on his pillow and covered up by his new Thomas comforter.  When he woke up this morning in his crib, he looked over and saw his "friends" in his new bed and immediately crawled into bed with them for the next half an hour.  I told him that his "friends" enjoyed sleeping in his new bed but that they missed him and maybe he could try sleeping in his new bed again soon.

I guess even little ones don't deal well with change sometimes. We will keep trying (and eventually take down his crib so he no longer has a choice).

Hanging out in his bed this morning after spending the night back in his crib...sigh!

  1. This is so interesting to me, Julie! We have been contemplating the big boy bed (because we are expecting again in January!). I will definitely follow your adventures in bed moving closely!

Hope you guys are having a great summer!

    1. Congratulations Erin (& Chris)!!! Joseph is such a busy little boy, not sitting still for very long at all so we knew that this transition was going to be a challenge. But we will succeed...it just may take a while!
      Blessings,
      Julie
